8000 lb Rolls of Toilet Paper in the Idaho River

Jul 25, 2011

The Missoulian reported that 8000 lb rolls of toilet paper were dumped into the Idaho River after a tractor trailer crash. Now that’s a jumbo toilet paper roll!

8 rolls of unprocessed toilet paper, each weighing 8000 lbs each were tossed from the truck. When waterlogged, they are estimated to weight 30,000 lbs each. While two rolls were removed, there are 6 rolls still remaining in the river. The disintegrating toilet paper does not pose an environmental threat to the fish, but is more of an aesthetic problem, according to authorities.

Uh oh!! What a waste of TP… As long as it’s not posing any environmental threats, I don’t think it looks THAT bad, though.

Now that’s a lot of TP. I’m glad it was just toilet paper and not something toxic or plastic. But still, a 30,000 pound roll could make a little mayhem.

Driving next to those hugs trucks always scares me, and thanks to this article I don’t have much more peace of mind! Was anyone hurt in the accident?

Holy tree, that’s a lot of TP! It’s great that the fish weren’t put into danger by this and hopefully it doesn’t take too long for them to get the river cleaned up!

Is their any effort being made to remove the existing or are they waiting for it to break down? I would assume something needs done with the pile other than leaving it there.

I’m glad this didn’t pose an environmental threat, but I’m sure it wasn’t great for that river, or the wildlife in it. Curious how long there were remnants of it floating around.

Is it bad to the environment? For me this is very discouraging, after the trailer fall they must clean up the mess before they leave.
