Bathroom Rules and Etiquette Signs
Jun 23, 2010
Last fall we posted about Harvard grad students’ bathroom etiquette rules, some of them being so obvious that people questioned their necessity. It seems that everyone, whether it be at work, at home, or in any public bathroom, has been guilty of violating bathroom etiquette. Whether it be leaving the toilet seat up at home, or forgetting to flush, there are so many ways to offend the other bathroom users.
A search on the web for “bathroom rules” found a wide variety of signs and postings regarding bathroom rules and etiquette. Here are some of these signs that remind us to use these shared facilities with consideration.

What other bathroom rules do you have that you think are important?

No.1 rule for men: wash your hands
A good rule for both men and women in the bathroom!
”If its dirty clean it!” People who are too lazy to clean up after themselves are terribly selfish.
I definitely can give the second to last set to my roommate. Every time I go to the bathroom, the toilet paper roll is empty!
These are funny but sooo true! A clean bathroom leads to clean results. Safety and health are key when it comes to the bathroom. Ya never know what can happen.. But why do the signs look so girly? They need to be posted in a men’s restroom as well
Really its quite funny to see these bathroom signs for etiquette and rules that needs to be followed. Thanks for sharing this with us.
Your welcome! Just a little bathroom humor
Haha! Bathroom etiquette for Harvard students!! Funny!
The best way to get your point across is with a little humor, I always say. These are absolutely awesome! I have one in my bathroom that’s also funny that I found at a flea market.

I’m looking for Rules For The Bath
1. Occupancy of this room by more than 42 persons is prohibited
2. Bathers will kindly refrain from eating the soap
3. Persons found not wearing birthday suites while bathing will be asked to leave the room
4. If there is a ring in the tub please answer it
5. Guest towels are to be used by guests. non-guests will please dry there hands on their clothes
6. Singing in the shower is allowed but dancing is frowned upon.
7. Please remove rubber ducky after each bath
Betty- Those are GREAT! I wonder if I could make my own sign. I’ve looked at local stores like Ross and Target, and they don’t have anything like these. Anyone have suggestions?
Bathroom etiquette i want to say can be somewhat regional. Although there are a wide variety of different manners one would consider ettiquette.
That’s true! I think some things are universal, like change the toilet paper roll when empty and wash your hands. I love Betty’s rules too!
Although most of the things said on toilet signs are really obvious, still people don’t obey the rules. You constantly see pee stains all over the seats which means they didn’t lift the seat up or toilets not being flushed. I believe because of toilets signs quirky designs they often give off the idea that it is not serious, thus leading to people ignoring them. If toilet signs were to be successful and not overlooked i think a little threat down the bottom is necessary, even if false at least their is a sense of fear in the person that if they disobey the rules, they could get caught or fined, prompting them to do the right thing.
