Kleenex Brand Facial Tissues History

Apr 23, 2010

Kleenex Facial Tissues BoxesKleenex brand facial tissues is now a recognized brand name for facial tissues. The name Kleenex alone is synonymous with facial tissues! But Kleenex facial tissues were almost never recognized for their use as disposable handkerchiefs. The story behind Kleenex facial tissues began in 1924, when the tissues were first marketed for using to remove cold cream from the face.

Advertisements were featured in magazines such as Ladies Home Journal, McCall’s, Good Housekeeping, Harper’s Bazaar, Vogue, Cosmopolitan and Redbook stating that Kleenex facial tissues were celebrities’ beauty secret.

A researcher at the Kimberly-Clark company was responsible for the idea to market Kleenex tissues as a disposable and soft handkerchief. He convinced the advertising sales department that Kleenex facial tissues could also be used in place of cloth handkerchiefs, and they began running ads focused on this purpose. Kleenex sales flourished after that! Thus, the historic brand name became a beloved household and bathroom product.

Apr 9, 2010

3M recently hosted a Scotch Tape Sculpture contest, called Off The Roll, inviting artists to submit photos of their original sculptures made from clear Scotch packaging tape. I was impressed with the diversity and depth of the sculptures that people submitted.

You can see the winners here, as announced on their contest website, but I chose to share some of the Scotch packing tape sculptures that did not receive prizes.

April Fools Day Pranks Online

Apr 1, 2010

Happy April Fools Day to all Toilet Paper Blog Readers!

Just wanted to share with you some funny April Fools online pranks. Traditionally, April Fools Day pranks have included toilet papering (or Tping) unsuspecting people’s houses.

Toilet Papered Barn from FarmvilleIn honor of this funny practical joke, FarmVille, the popular online Facebook game, implemented the option of toilet papering barns. A free roll of toilet paper was given to every farmer. Users can pull toilet paper pranks on their neighbors’ barns.

Some states classify toilet papering as illegal, but others do not penalize toilet papering pranks. If you are looking for a hilarious prank for April Fools Day without the legal risks, try toilet papering on FarmVille. Thanks to FarmVille Freak for the post and pictures!

Google TiSP LogoGoogle is also known for their April Fools Day pranks, including Google TiSP (short for Toilet Internet Service Provider). Google TiSP was a google hoax, a fictitious free broadband internet service that people could install themselves, accessible by flushing a fiber optic cable down a toilet connected to the local sewage system.

Larry Page was supposedly quoted in the official press release:

“We’ve got that whole organizing-the-world’s-information thing more or less under control,” said Google Co-founder and President Larry Page, a longtime supporter of so-called “dark porcelain” research and development. “What’s interesting, though, is how many different modalities there are for actually getting that information to you – not to mention from you.”

The Installation Instructions includes illustrated step by step instructions for self-installation, or offers professional installation service with free bathroom delivery.  It even offered a TiSP Help Group for online help.

Whether you choose to pull an April Fools Day Prank online or not, I hope you enjoyed these funny pranks!

The Results of the Cottonelle Roll Poll are in!

Mar 19, 2010

Cottonelle Roll Over Toilet PaperFor those who have been following The Cottonelle Roll Poll, Team Roll Over has been announced the official winner! Cottonelle found that 72% of Americans prefer to roll OVER while only 28% of Americans roll under.

A related Cottonelle survey of 1,000 Americans, offered insight into toilet paper behavior. Some of the fun facts include:

  • Those who prefer hanging their toilet paper over are more likely to have flipped the direction of the roll at a friend’s home. 27 percent of “overs” admitted to this shocking bathroom behavior!
  • Those who prefer to roll over also seem to be more observant and neurotic about their toilet paper roll direction. For instance:
    • “Overs” are most likely to notice the direction the toilet paper is hanging (74 percent)
    • “Overs” are more likely to be annoyed when the roll is the “wrong way”, under instead of over (24 percent)

Whether you prefer to roll over or under, get your Cottonelle toilet paper on ToiletPaperWorld.com today.

Toilet Paper Mousetrap!

Jan 18, 2010

Here at ToiletPaperWorld.com, we are very animal friendly. Often times our employees bring thier dogs to work. So when I saw this great idea for a “no-kill” mousetrap, I just had to repost it! We have had problems with mice before in my house and I have resorted to using the more traditional traps, but this one is safe and easy.

toilet paper mousetrap

  1. Get a toilet paper tube and crease two lines to form a flat sided tunnel.
  2. Put a treat on one end of the tube: A cracker and dab of peanut butter works great.
  3. Get a tall (at least 20 inches) bucket. A trash can works well.
  4. Balance the tube precariously on the edge of a table or counter with the treat hanging directly over the tall sided receptacle.
  5. The mouse will scurry to the treat (they like tunnels) and fall into the trap.
  6. Then you can release the mouse far from your house!

Thanks to LifeHacker.com for the idea!
