If you are a reader of our blog, you will know that one of our loyal customers and favorite charities is the Elephant Sanctuary in Tennessee. 2 years ago, the sanctuary became famous when CBS News featured a story on thier animal odd couple, Bella the dog & Tarra the elephant. (see below) Thier story is a tale of love and friendship we could all learn from.
Sadly, on Friday we received the heartbreaking news that Bella passed away. Click here to read the full letter from the CEO of the Elephant Sanctuary. You may want tissues handy when reading this story. Please share this story and keep Bella’s memory alive!

Sometimes people make very creative pieces of art out of simple materials. Toilet paper art is no exception – from toilet paper dresses to other fantastic toilet paper art, people have done some remarkable things with toilet paper.
Even how you store your toilet paper can be art – all of you Space Invaders fans should appreciate this, I certainly did!
I wish I had the room in my bathroom to make an homage such as this to a great game, this really brings me back to all of the time I spent in front of the Atari as a kid. I for one would like to see some more video-game-inspired toilet paper art.
For those of you not familiar, this is an older game that was on a system most kids today probably haven’t heard of, or you would have even had to go to an arcade and pump quarters into the machine to play it…. ah the good ol’ days.
Thanks and credit to Gotgame.com for this great toilet paper storage art image.

Toilet Paper Faceoff
Round One: No. 1 seeded Toilet paper easily knocked eighth-seed Staples out of the contention, because no one goes out in a snowstorm for staples. In the round’s only upset, Dish Soap (7) edged out Lightbulbs (2), because it’s better to be in the dark than have food poisoning from improperly cleaned dishes.
Canned goods (full team title: Pinto Beans and Other Canned Goods That Can Be Eaten After The Apocalypse) beat Chapstick (6). Even though having dry lips is really and truly awful, it does not compare to having no food, even if it’s just humble Pinto Beans. Fourth-seed Underwear ultimately prevailed over Q-Tips (5), mainly because I know it’s laundry time when I run out of underwear, whereas Q-Tips have no such pull on my actions.
SEMI-FINALS: Toilet Paper knocked out Dish Soap based on the fact that I’ve never bought more than one thing of dish soap at a time, and that just seems weird, while Canned Goods earned a very slight victory over Underwear, on account of that whole eating-is-necessary thing.
CHAMPIONSHIP: Toilet paper and canned goods clashed mightily, and each held the lead (in my mind, where this tournament is happening) for good stretches. On an emotional level, I prefer toilet paper. But ultimately, the Red Cross doesn’t recommend you have toilet paper in your emergency kit, and no one ever has toilet paper drives (*editor’s note – ToiletPaperWorld recently donated to a toilet paper drive, featured on Daytime TV), or gives you $2 off admission to an event with donation of two toilet paper rolls. CANNED GOODS WIN!

Because of our interest in all things toilet paper here at ToiletPaperWorld, we happened across an article by Jenny Gardiner detailing the woes of jumbo toilet paper rolls. There are a few points I can sympathize with Ms. Jenny, and a few bones to pick after reading the article.
Let’s start off with the positive – In Jenny’s article she states that these rolls can be difficult to use because they are simply so large. I can’t say I’ve used a stall with the handicap rail and gigantic toilet paper roll positioned somewhat out of reach as she has, but I can imagine that an awkward angle combined with a giant diameter and cheaper toilet paper would make it tear off before you got all the toilet paper you wanted. On the other hand, I believe these jumbo rolls are an economic necessity for businesses – the bottom line is they save companies money.
Also Jenny’s paragraph on auto-flush toilets is quite humorous – I used to work at a place with them. Some people argue the darn things are supposed to conserve water, but they go off inadvertently so much I’m sure they end up wasting more water than a regular flush toilet, not to mention the chance of getting a wet bum when it goes off and you’re still on it.
Now, on to the rest of the article… personally I thought there’s too much anti-male sentiment going on that made it difficult to get through the whole article, I can’t say I’d become a fan. The opening statement that men design things for looks and not function is completely contrary to me. I don’t think I’ve ever heard a man who just built something designed for a specific purpose say, “Well, it does the job great but it just doesn’t look pretty enough.”
Last but not least is the toilet paper theft! I’m glad Jenny had a remorseful sentiment towards this act – unlike some previous toilet paper thieves we’ve run into. Post your thoughts in the comments section!

The Creator of Charmin’s ‘Don’t Squeeze the Charmin’ advertising campaign recently died at age 74. After a battle with Parkinson’s disease for five years, John Chervokas died Saturday of a stroke in Manhattan.
Chervokas said that seeing women testing fruit’s softness in supermarkets inspired him to write the creative advertising campaign. He saw that women touched produce and other items, testing for softness. Mr. Whipple’s character discouraged shoppers from squeezing the Charmin.
As a junior copywriter at Betnon & Bowles in 1964, he coined the slogan, “Don’t Squeeze the Charmin!” The advertising campaign featured television commercials with Mr. Whipple, played by actor Dick Wilson. With the catchy slogan and popular television commercial, Mr Whipple became one of TV’s best-known characters, and Charmin became the best-selling toilet paper by 1969. Mr. Whipple was even resurrected as a spokesperson for Charmin toilet paper, see the image to the left.
Before Mr. Whipple, came the Charmin Lady, which we featured a few weeks ago. Now, the Charmin advertising campaign is based on bears in the woods.
See some of the vintage Charmin commercials on the NPR website.

The Missoulian reported that 8000 lb rolls of toilet paper were dumped into the Idaho River after a tractor trailer crash. Now that’s a jumbo toilet paper roll!
8 rolls of unprocessed toilet paper, each weighing 8000 lbs each were tossed from the truck. When waterlogged, they are estimated to weight 30,000 lbs each. While two rolls were removed, there are 6 rolls still remaining in the river. The disintegrating toilet paper does not pose an environmental threat to the fish, but is more of an aesthetic problem, according to authorities.
