Oscar Fashions Toilet Paper Dress Art

Jan 6, 2011

Recently, one of our readers sent us pictures of toilet paper dresses that she made. The series is called Oscar Fashions.

Liza Morado, the artist, made the first dress to enter a newspaper contest as a joke. The contest was originally to design a dress for someone to wear to the Academy Awards. So Morado created a toilet paper dress.

Though she didn’t win that contest, she began making more toilet paper dresses. They are not life-size, but rather small creations featured on 8 x 10 inch boards.

When asked what kind of toilet paper she liked to work with, Morado said,

I prefer a paper that’s not too puffy. It is easier to work with one ply rather than two ply.

Morado said that she the qualities that she looks for in toilet paper are good absorbency and softness all in one.

More of Morado’s work can be seen on her website.

These kind of remind me of the jewelry holders in the shape of a body. I bought my daughter one the other day at Target and she’s in love with it. Maybe I’ll try and attempt a dress for it :) We’ll see how it goes..

Do much detail with the pleats and layers. Are these 100% toilet paper or do they include some little materials like tape or glue?
