Kimberly Clark Toilet Paper Goes Tube Free

Oct 27, 2010

Scott Tube Free Toilet PaperNext month, Kimberly-Clark is unveiling a new product for retail stores. Coreless toilet paper in household roll sizes!

Of course, there are already coreless toilet paper rolls sold, generally wholesale for businesses and high volume toilet paper dispensers.

Scott Naturals Tube-Free toilet paper will be sold at Walmart and Sam’s Club stores throughout the Northeast.

Why go coreless?

An estimated 17 billion cardboard tubes are thrown away each year, enough to circle the Earth’s equator more than 45 times, as reported in USA Today. Some people use the cardboard tubes from toilet paper for arts and craft projects, but most end up in the trash. The new tube free toilet paper may appeal to environmental groups.

Our own Toilet Paper King, Kenn Fischburg, said that some toilet paper cardboard tubes actually end up flushed down the toilet. In an interview with AOL News, he said,

You’d be surprised at how many people clog up toilets with the cardboard tubes. You run out of paper and, out of anger, shove the tube in the toilet, or people will do that as a prank.

The tube free toilet paper rolls will retain their shape without the core and still fit on standard toilet paper dispenser spindles.

Are you going to go coreless? Or do you reuse the cardboard for other uses?

Q&A with The Toilet Paper King: Moist Wipes vs. Toilet Paper

Aug 30, 2010

Lately, there has been a lot of discussion over the benefits of moist wipes vs toilet paper. One study has shown that some moist wipes may cause an allergic reaction, but many people find that they enjoy the convenience and added sanitation of moist toilet paper.

We sat down with the Toilet Paper King Kenn Fischburg, author of the Toilet Paper Encyclopedia for a little Q & A on the subject.

Q. Do you prefer moist wipes over traditional toilet paper as a part of your bathroom routine?

A. Yes, if the situation calls for it. Moist wipes will do the best cleaning for sure. But in the end the regular tissue leaves my skin dry and comfortable. For very sanitary minded individuals using both is the best. You just need to spend a little more time. (In my interview with Howard Stern about this subject he was enthusiastic about utilizing moist wipes as part of the final cleansing procedure).

Q. Do you only use either toilet paper or moist wipes alone, or do you always use both together?

A. The moist wipes are great on their own but I prefer using them with regular dry tp to finish the procedure.

Q. Why is there discussion over moist wipes vs. toilet paper?

A. The question of which tp is preferred helps me understand customer needs. It is common for users to try to save money but when it comes to this subject money is not the issue. The best tp may be only pennies more per application and is well worth the extra small cost. Adding high quality premium moist wipes into the equation is like having dessert.

Q.  Does this ever come up in everyday conversation?

A. The subject can be entertaining and informative. It can also be intimidating for some to speak about. Because I am known for my expertise in this area I am often drawn into this type of discussion. I try to avoid uncomfortable conversations with customers and business people unless they are in the industry.

May 12, 2009

We get lots of laughs when we tell people the name of our website. They always wonder if we are joking, or being gross- but the reality is, we are just so passionate about toilet paper, we decided to name our website after it!

My grandfather, Jack Fischburg, started selling toilet paper (or tp as those of us in the business call it) over 60 years ago. Since then, my whole family has experimented with every type and brand out there. My Dad, Kenn Fischburg, is a renowned “expert” on the history and makings of TP, having appeared on the History Channel, the Howard Stern Show, and in a few books.

So when we decided to open a new website, we knew toilet paper had to be the focus. It seems that everyone has their brand of preference. I recently came across a woman who bought HandiWipes from our site and also agrees with our name choice. Ruth writes “I myself certainly make good use of toilet paper, and of course have my favorite brand…which come to think of it is getting harder and harder to find…It is crystal clear why they chose TOILET PAPER as their sobriquet. Everyone but everyone uses this item…OFTEN, COPIOUSLY, FOREVER.” You can check out her blog here.

So there is a little background, don’t forget to visit!
