Tale of the Pilfering Politician

Apr 20, 2011

Here at ToiletPaperWorld we love to hear the occasional odd stories involving our favorite product and share them.  This particular story comes to us all the way from Germany!  A big problem with public restrooms is that some people might try to steal whatever products are accessible and easy to carry, including toilet paper.  Many toilet paper and toilet paper dispenser manufacturers make products to prevent this very thing by building toilet paper dispensers that have secure locking mechanisms.  Just last week, a young politician in Northern Germany was caught red-handed stealing toilet paper from the town hall facility.

Apparently, the janitors became suspicious after they noticed 200 rolls had gone missing over a period of time.  The proactive property manager hid in a bathroom stall one evening, and caught the pilfering politician, 23 year old Frank-Michael John, with toilet paper rolls in his backpack and one in his hand.

Unfortunately there doesn’t seem to be information available on why he is stealing toilet paper – is he a very low paid politician and couldn’t afford it?  Do we write this off as simple office antics?  Sadly, we may never have an answer to this puzzling piece of the pilfering politician.

I’ve witnessed a couple people in the workplace grab 1 or 2 rolls, but 24 is amazing. And one was in his hand? At least keep it conspicuous. Would this be considered shoplifting? LOL.

I have actually seen people stealing toilet paper from bars before. It’s ridiculous! You would think such a necessity for a public place would be a little more respected than to be subject to theft. But then again, who doesn’t love free toilet paper?

Seriously? Stealing toilet paper from a public restroom? Are times REALLY that bad? What is the world coming to?

Stealing toilet paper has always been an issue in public restrooms. I saw, stock up in bulk to save money and never run out!

I once knew someone that stole public toilet paper from restaurants and coffee shops. Pretty cheap if you ask me, but I guess it just shows how toilet paper is always in demand!

Haha, this is too funny. I worked in a restaurant for a few years and we would always laugh about the odd things that would get stolen, like toilet paper. The one that really made me laugh the most is how many people would steal the salt and pepper shakers or bottles of ketchup.

[…] I’m glad Jenny had a remorseful sentiment towards this act – unlike some previous toilet paper thieves we’ve run into.  Post your thoughts in the comments […]

Oh my god, how funny! I can’t imagine why anyone would steal TP of all things… It’s not like it’s THAT expensive!!

Ha, how embarrassing, to be a political figure- a ‘leader’ of the community and to be caught stealing, especially something as trivial as toilet paper! I worked with a lady in a restaurant once who got fired for stealing 1 roll of toilet paper.
